Entry-level classes are his favorite to teach.
According to Ted, "It's very rewarding to know you've helped someone learn the skills
to enjoy this fantastic sport." Ted opened Scuba Ted's in Springville
in September 2003 to provide people (divers and non-divers alike) a
dive shop with the kind of service he felt Utah County needed and
deserved. It's Ted's goal to create the shop you think of for any
and all of your scuba needs. He'll do whatever it takes to make
"Scuba Ted's" your dive shop.
Christian Portiss
Christian certified in 2003, while living in California and was
instantly hooked on exploring the underwater world. His diving obsession led him quickly
through the PADI system to become a Divemaster. He briefly lost the diving bug after moving
his family to Utah, but he's been feeding his "addiction" continually since becoming a PADI
certified Scuba instructor in early 2006. He continues to pile up dive experience and
additional training as rapidly as he can. Subteraqua periculum!
Jerad Butler
Jerad was certified in 1989 and became
an instructor in 1996. He has certified an estimated 600 Scuba Divers
and has completed over 500 dives at Catalina Island. Jerad owned and
operated Wasatch Scuba before coming to work with Ted.
Doug Burrell
During his midlife crisis, Doug decided to become a PADI certified Scuba instructor.
He genuinely enjoys the adventure and freedom that diving provides him. Doug was trained at
Scuba Ted's from start to finish, beginning with Open Water. Doug is thrilled to be a member of
the Scuba Ted's team and feels that there's no better place to learn to dive. Doug is a self-professed
"diving addict", and he's "dragged" most of his family into the water after him. Doug enjoys local diving,
winter diving, and "catch and release" spear fishing. According to Doug, "Diving isn't just a sport,
it's a lifestyle."
Christian Jensen
Christian is a PADI certified instructor and has been teaching since
2001. He is a regular Catalina diver visiting the Channel Islands of
California several times a year. In addition to his love of California
diving, Christian will dive any Utah body of water at any time of the year.
He has been involved in certifying hundreds of divers, many through the Community
Education Program at Utah Valley State College. Christian holds a B.S. degree in
biology education, and is currently working on his Masters Degree. He has extensive
experience in outdoor education and working with youth and is currently employed
full-time as a biology teacher at a residential treatment center for boys.
